1955年から高島屋百貨店宣伝部制作室に勤務。
1950～70年代はデザイナー、イラストレーター、アートディレクターとして、1969年度朝日広告賞グランプリをはじめ、毎日、日経、産経各新聞広告賞、広告電通賞などを20回近く受賞している。
80～90年代は制作室長としてマネジメント業務の他、商品、売場、店舗プランニングに携わり、店舗開発のビジュアル・プロデューサーも兼務する。
2000年同社を退社後は、地方百貨店のリニューアル・プランの作成や食品会社のブランディングなどを続けたが、2005年から、長年あたためていた「異時異図JAPAN」制作に専念することにした。

Shuji Abe was born in 1934 in Osaka.He started his career of designer at the Advertising Department of Takashimaya Department Store in Osaka.From the 1950’s to 1970’s, he worked as a graphic designer, illustrator and art director. In 1969 he was awarded the annual grand prix of the Asahi Advertising Prize, the highest award among the advertising prizes in Japan.He constantly received over 20 awards from the press such as Asahi, Mainichi, Nikkei as well as Dentsu Inc., the largest advertising agency.From the 80’s to 90’s he took part in management as a director of production as well as planning on products, sales floors and stores. He also held the position of the producer overseeing visual presentation of the stores.Having retired from Takashimaya in 2000, he continued to work on planning of remodeling for local department stores or branding for food companies.He has been devoting himself to his work for the current exhibition since 2005.
